Senior Community Centers of San Diego has serviced senior citizens living at or below the Federal poverty line since 1970. As of now, $11,170 a year is considered the poverty line. Senior Community Centers of San Diego has developed programs that help seniors live on their own as long as possible to avoid having to move into a nursing home or other assisted living facility unless absolutely necessary. The Senior Community Centers strive to foster a sense of community among seniors, easing the isolation in which they live and promoting positive life choices that afford them the dignity they deserve. Their innovative programs are recognized at the state and national levels as models for the future of service delivery for this population.
