Vision

To inspire the Future Leaders of Our Community!

History

The Future Leaders of Our Community (FLOC) was established in May of 2009 in response to the need for a community-based organization that bridged the gap between young professionals and nonprofits; the impetus was spawned by the lack of accessible volunteer opportunities, relevant awareness events that invited direct action and inspired leadership.  A motivated team of young professionals in Orange County, California, organized to address the need and in time formed the new nonprofit corporation that received its tax-exempt status in November 2010.

Since its inception FLOC has discovered great success and has partnered with over 80 nonprofits in Orange County, assisting to their needs by engaging thousands of young professionals in their causes and creating hundreds of volunteer opportunities.

In July of 2011 FLOC expanded into Los Angeles and San Diego…setting the foundation to expand into other cities including Phoenix, San Francisco, Denver and Seattle.  In the course of expansion FLOC has partnered with many local and national businesses, foundations, private donors and civic leaders; setting the stage for a FLOC National Office that will operate to support nonprofits across the United States and beyond.  FLOC remains a young organization with an excellent vision and mission for inspiring young professionals.

FLOC’ Focus is Three-Fold

Service – Leaders Serve Community:

Have you ever desired to volunteer in the community but had no idea where to start? Well don’t feel bad, you’re not alone! That’s why each month FLOC invites an Executive Director of a local non-profit to speak to its members about service and ways to participate in the community. The meetings are fun, informal and usually take place in a bar or trendy restaurant. Following each meeting members are given a chance to sign-up and volunteer with the organization. Now how easy is that! Come, learn, sign-up and have fun!

Fyi…In 2009-2010, FLOC members fed the homeless in Laguna, cleaned the beaches in Dana Point, served the hospital in Mission Viejo, built homes for needy families in San Juan Capistrano, supported at risk children in Laguna Niguel, advocated for victims of cancer in Aliso Viejo, organized a food drive for Santa Ana’s hungry, raised thousands for sexually abused children in Anaheim, enhanced community participation in San Clemente and supported numerous other organizations.  Rad huh!

Community – Leaders Are Relational:

It’s no secret that Young professionals are busy. We’re starting careers, dating, raising young families and learning what it means to be adults. In the busy 21st century, it’s hard to find time to network, make new friends, and develop relationships with others that help us grow as leaders. FLOC understands this, which is why our calendar is full of ongoing events, service projects, social gatherings and trainings that put us in front of new faces and members of the community. It’s been said that one cannot become a leader in their community without first knowing who their community is. Well have no fear! At FLOC gatherings you’ll meet singles, married couples, attorneys, doctors, teachers, pool cleaners, artists, politicians, parents, entrepreneurs, crazy people, normal people and just about everyone under the sun. Get involved and get connected to your community!

Leadership – Leaders Never Stop Learning:

Over the last decade, the word “leadership” has become an extremely trendy and popular word amongst anthro-intellectuals. From the public to the private sector, many argue that the 21st century will be defined by those who are simply brave enough to lead. Are you brave enough? FLOC believes you can be if you have the right tools and skills. That’s why FLOC offers ongoing quarterly leadership training seminars for its members’ development. Check the calendar to see a list of upcoming courses and dates!
